Format of Matches:
- All players must be members of the society.
- Each match will be a greensomes matchplay competition between 2 mixed pairs.
- Each person in a pair will drive off at every hole and choose which ball to play, then proceed to play shots alternately until that ball is holed.
- There are no limits on how many drives of an individual player have to be taken.
- Normal matchplay rules apply in that putts may be conceded by the opposing pair and that any issues on a particular hole should be resolved and the result of the hole known before teeing off on the next hole.
Handicaps:
- Each pair will calculate their joint handicap by averaging their 2 individual handicaps. Normal BGS rules apply in that individual handicaps must be the lower of BGS or club handicaps.
- The pair with the lower handicap will play off scratch and the higher handicap pair will receive the full handicap difference.
- No adjustments will be made because of SSS and par differences between the red and yellow tees, nor courtesy shots for playing an away course, as they would equally affect both teams.
- Team A have handicaps of 16 and 28, so their joint handicap will be (16 + 28)/2 = 22.
- Team B have individual handicaps of 17 and 32, so there joint handicap will be 25 (24.5 rounded up to 25).
- Team B will therefore get 25 – 22 = 3 shots i.e. a shot on holes with Stroke Index 1, 2 and 3.
Example:
Competition
Two mini-leagues are drawn. Each pair will play all the other pairs within their mini-league. Only one match to be played and NOT home and away. Players whose names are shown in bold have choice of venue.
After the end of August, winners of the 2 mini-leagues will play the final at an independent course agreed between all the finalists; therefore each pair will play at least 3 matches, with the finalists playing 4 matches. There will be no Plate competition. The green fees for the final will be subsidised.
The schedule of matches by month is for guidance only; matches should be played when most convenient. However, there will be no extension beyond August 31 and matches not played by that date will not be counted in determining the mini-league winners.
The winner of each mini-league is the pair with the most wins.
- In the event of a tie, the winner is the pair with the highest sum of holes won. For example winning 2 matches 3 & 1 and 2 & 1 will score 5, the match lost will not be included. Matches won on the 18th hole or beyond (19th, 20th, etc) or settled by arbitrary decision such as the toss of a coin will score 1.
Where relevant the rules pertaining to the Singles and Double KO matches apply and specifically the rule that the Organiser’s decision is final.
