Rona Barford wins IBM UK Club National Golf Championship 2008, the Jim Hayes Trophy
On June 9th in stunning heat and for 9 hours on the beautiful but treacherous Frilford Heath courses Rona Barford kept her exquisite golf game together to record a magnificent BGS victory in the 2008 IBM UK National Golf Tournament Final.
On a day when four of the 34 men competitors submitted "no return" and a further eight were more than 20 over par nett, Rona had a nett 70 to take the joint lead at lunchtime and held her nerve for the best round of nett 68 in the afternoon, scoring 7under par to win by four strokes from scratch champion Andy White.
Only the second lady winner in the 39 years of the tournament, and defeating a total entry into the qualifying events of around 166 players, this truly is a "Major" win and hopefully the magnificent Jim Hayes Cup will be on show at our events later in the season. We have a similarly large prize of our own that she will have to be suitably modest to avoid winning!
Our five other competitors all aquitted themselves well, finishing between 12th and 25th.

We look forward to a large entry of BGS members inspired by Rona's triumph into the 2009 competition next year, when the final will be at Sherwood Forest on 15th June.
