North Hants - 8th JulySign up now for 18 holes at North Hants where it all began 21 years ago. Enrolments close 3rd July. In addition to the usual prizes and trophies, you will be playing for the President's Bowl (holder Mike Davis) using a modified scoring system that rewards those who go for their nett pars and birdies (and better)! A few extra prizes will be available. North Hants have assured us that last year's hollow tining of the greens will NOT be repeated! Places are going fast so get your entry in as soon as possible. Details and an e-mail link to the organiser are on the Diary page. | Army ResultsOn the hottest day of 2009, 32 stalwarts were on parade at the Army on 25th June for a day's glorious golf. The ball ran and ran on the fairways, if you found them, and off lightning fast greens. The winner of the afternoon Stableford was Chris Jacques with 38; second place was highly contested with Janet Small beating Nick Buse and Ian Stoker on count-back with 37. All three men blobbed the last hole so there was all to play for at the end. Chris also picked up the 'nearest-the-pin' award with Gilly Macmeeken winning 'nearest the-pin-in-two'. Chris and Paul Staples both won 'twos' money. The 'look-alike' competition went to Ian Stoker's combination of Leslie Philips and Terry Thomas, mainly for the style of his appreciation of the fairer sex, though perhaps not all of them would have fallen for the knobbly knees on display. Nine turned up for 9-hole Greensomes in the morning. The team winners of this were Lynda Thompson (helped by a two), Paul Staples and Malcolm Large.. Dave McCormick, having complete confidence in winning it again, left the big-head trophy at home, his good lady wife having, apparently, already mounted it as a permanent exhibit in their porch. Unfortunately it was not to be, Myles Coleman was the deserved winner for complaining on the tee that a very long hole was par 4 and not par 5 and then proceeding to par it. The charity benefited to the value of £48: - £23 2s money, - £20 auction of a Seniors ticket, - and £5 for some of Rupert's balls. Congratulations to all winners and many thanks to Anil for organising a very enjoyable day. |
